What: National Water Monitoring Day – Media Conference and ActivitiesNational Water Monitoring Day, October 18th, is the first annual nationwide event created to mark the anniversary of the initial passage of the Clean Water Act. On this 30th anniversary, the main purpose of the event is to take a snapshot view of streams, lakes and coastal areas throughout the United States by inviting citizen monitors, established volunteer monitoring organizations and federal, state, Tribal and local monitoring program staff to evaluate conditions of their local watersheds. San Diego may have the largest participation in the nation this day. The San Diego community is integrating efforts of our local top national scientists with elementary through college level students, government and community groups. Students around the region will perform and submit data from four key tests: dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity/clarity and temperature into the Year of Clean Water data base. This effort is being coordinated locally by the Steering Committee and nationwide by America’s Clean Water Foundation, in cooperation with several other environmental groups and governmental agencies across the country. Data collected will help in drafting summary comparisons reflecting changes in water quality over the last thirty years. Teachers and students can also use this information to discuss impacts in their local watershed and compare their findings with others. Where:
